GEORGIA

Piedmont Healthcare restarted construction on a replacement facility in Atlanta, with completion projected for early 2012. The project had been delayed because of the recession. Through rebidding of the entire project and working with general contractor BE&K and architects Perkins+Will, Piedmont officials are expected to save $30 million in construction costs.

FLORIDA

Florida Hospital Memorial Medical Center, Daytona Beach, broke ground on a 30,000-square-foot freestanding outpatient cancer institute. It is scheduled to open in October. The project team includes HuntonBrady Architects; KlimaWeeks, civil engineer; BBM Inc., structural engineer; TLC, MEP engineer; HHI Design, landscape architect; and Robins & Morton, contractor.

MICHIGAN

Ground was broken in March for the 10,000-square-foot Monroe (Mich.) Cancer Center, a joint venture of Mercy Memorial Hospital System of Monroe, ProMedica Health System of Toledo, Ohio, and the Barbara Ann Karmanos Cancer Center in Detroit.

CONNECTICUT

Connecticut Children's Medical Center in Hartford will create a $5 million, 8,000-square-foot Clinical Care Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders on the hospital's fifth floor. It is scheduled to open in late 2011.

GEORGIA

Children's Healthcare of Atlanta and Emory University will build a $90 million research center focusing on pediatric health. The 196,000-square-foot facility will be built on the Emory campus.
