Editorial Guidelines
Getting Published In Health Facilities Management
Hospital professionals and other sources frequently ask the editors of Health Facilities Management how they can submit an article or other information to be considered for publication. Below are instructions on the various opportunities for outside editorial contributions and the steps to follow before submitting a piece for publication consideration.
Feature Articles:
We welcome submissions from outside sources, including hospital professionals, consultants and suppliers with expertise in the topics we cover, including: construction, design, engineering, technology, environmental services, codes and standards, infrastructure, etc. Here are the steps to follow before submitting an article:
- Call or e-mail Editor-in-chief Mike Hrickiewicz (mhrickiewicz@aha.org, 312-893-6813) to discuss the story idea. This step is essential and will help avoid you writing a story that may not be accepted because either we have a similar piece in-house or ran something on this topic recently.
- Develop an outline for editorial review. If your article idea is accepted, Mike typically will ask for a written story outline (usually an extended paragraph and bullet points on what the piece will cover) and assign a word count for the piece. This essential process ensures the author covers all the bases expected in the submission and helps avoid significant rewrites or major changes to the submission. Mike will also assign a deadline for the piece at this time.
- Submit the article and artwork: The text for the article and a brief author bio should be submitted electronically via email to mhrickiewicz@aha.org, ideally in Microsoft Word. Health Facilities Management is a highly visual publication and our readers enjoy excellent photography, tables, diagrams, charts and other visuals that will enhance their understanding of the article.
Specifications For Submitted Photos:
All electronic images should be sized at least 5 inches wide at 300 dpi resolution to ensure suitable reproduction quality in the printed piece. Acceptable formats for submitted images include: JPG, TIFF and EPS.
New Products For Solutions Section:
In each issue, we devote at least four full pages to new products coverage and highlight products in at least three different product categories. Check our editorial calendar to see which categories will be covered each issue. Please submit all new products to be considered for coverage at least 8 weeks in advance of the publication date. Submit new products along with a photo sized at least 5 inches wide at 300 dpi resolution in JPG, TIF or EPS format to: Jamie Morgan, senior editor, jmorgan@aha.org, 312-893-6817.
