NFPA weekly update: Sept. 30 to Oct. 4, 2024

Six NFPA documents are open for public input, and the National Electrical Code committee makes progress on the 2026 edition

The National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) manages more than 300 codes and works with more than 250 technical committees in its standards development process.

Below is a list of NFPA codes and committee happenings for the week of Sept. 30 to Oct. 4.

Open for public input

There are six NFPA documents relevant to health care open for first draft public input.

NFPA 13R, Standard for the Installation of Sprinkler Systems in Low-Rise Residential Occupancies, 2027 edition. The public input period closes June 4, 2025.

NFPA 101A, Guide on Alternative Approaches to Life Safety, 2027 edition. The public input period closes June 4, 2025.

NFPA 110, Standard for Emergency and Standby Power Systems, 2028 edition. The public input period closes June 4, 2025.

NFPA 111, Standard on Stored Electrical Energy Emergency and Standby Power Systems, 2028 edition. The public input period closes June 4, 2025.

NFPA 400, Hazardous Materials Code, 2028 edition. The public input period closes June 4, 2025.

NFPA 801, Standard for Fire Protection for Facilities Handling Radioactive Materials, 2030 edition. The public input period closes June 2, 2027.

To submit a public input using the online submission system, go directly to document’s link and select the “Next Edition” tab. Click on "Submit Public Input Online" to begin the process. Users will be asked to sign-in or create a free online account with the NFPA before using this system.

Other news

The committee for NFPA 70®, National Electrical Code®, continues to make progress on the 2026 edition’s second draft.

The committee’s 18 code-making panels posted their public comment reports and agendas for upcoming meetings. Each report and agenda can be found under the “Next Edition” tab in the “Second Draft Committee Information” section.
