NFPA weekly update: March 17-21
The National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) manages more than 300 codes and works with more than 250 technical committees in its codes and standards development process. Below is a list of NFPA committee happenings for the week of March 17-21.
Public input and commenting
NFPA 115, Standard for Laser Fire Protection. The first draft ballot for the standard’s 2027 edition is posted under the “next edition” tab in the “first draft committee information” section. The ballot includes the public input report, first revisions report and final ballot.
NFPA 901, Standard Classifications for Fire and Emergency Services Incident Reporting. The standard’s annual revision cycle moved from 2025 to 2027. The standard’s public input period has reopened, and comments are now due June 4. To submit a public input using the NFPA’s online submission system, go directly to the NFPA 901 page using the link above. Once on the NFPA 901 page, select the link "submit a public input" to begin the process.
Meeting minutes and notices
NFPA 551, Guide for the Evaluation of Fire Risk Assessments. First draft meeting minutes from the March 18 meeting are posted under the “next edition” tab in the “first draft committee information” section.
NFPA 730, Guide for Premises Security. A notice for an upcoming meeting taking place May 14 to discuss the second draft of the guide’s 2026 is posted under the “next edition” tab in the “second draft committee information” section.
