NFPA weekly update: Feb. 17-21
The National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) manages more than 300 codes and works with more than 250 technical committees in its codes and standards development process. Below is a list of NFPA committee happenings for the week of Feb. 17-21.
Ballots, amendments and motions
The codes and standards listed below have items open for comment or notices of intent to make a motion (NITMAMs).
NFPA 70®, National Electrical Code®. Two tentative interim amendments (TIAs) for the code’s 2023 edition are open for public comment. Proposed TIAs No. 1820 and No. 1821 are posted under the “current & prior editions” tab in the “tentative interim amendment” section. Public commenting for both closes April 8.
NFPA 10, Standard for Portable Fire Extinguishers. The second draft of the standard’s 2026 edition is open for NITMAMs. The NITMAM process closes March 27. The second draft and a link to the NITMAM submission portal are posted under the “next edition” tab.
Meeting minutes and agendas
Four committees shared meeting minutes and agendas.
NFPA 101®, Life Safety Code®. The committee posted first draft minutes from its Jan. 23 meeting. The minutes, which pertain to the standard’s 2027 edition, are posted under the “next edition” tab in the “first draft committee information” section.
NFPA 232, Standard for the Protection of Records. The committee posted second draft minutes from its Feb. 18 meeting. The minutes, which pertain to the standard’s 2026 edition, are posted under the “next edition” tab in the “second draft committee information” section.
NFPA 551, Guide for the Evaluation of Fire Risk Assessments. The committee shared a first draft meeting agenda for its upcoming March 18 meeting regarding the guide’s 2027 edition The agenda is posted under the “next edition” tab in the “first draft committee information” section.
NFPA 5000, Building Construction and Safety Code. The committee posted first draft minutes from its Jan. 24 meeting. The minutes, which pertain to the standard’s 2027 edition, are posted under the “next edition” tab in the “first draft committee information” section.
Ballots
NFPA 855, Standard for the Installation of Stationary Energy Storage Systems. The committee for the standard’s 2026 edition posted its second draft ballot, which includes the second revisions report, public comment report and final ballot. The ballot information is posted under the “next edition” tab in the “second draft committee information” section.
