NFPA weekly update: Feb. 10-14

The National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) manages more than 300 codes and works with more than 250 technical committees in its codes and standards development process. Below is a list of NFPA committee happenings for the week of Feb. 10-14. 

Ballots

NFPA 10, Standard for Portable Fire Extinguishers. The committee posted its second draft ballot for the standard’s 2026 edition. The ballot, including the public comment report, second revision report and final ballot, is posted under the “next edition” tab in the “second draft committee information” section.

NFPA 70E, Standard for Electrical Safety in the Workplace. The committee posted its first draft ballot for the standard’s 2027 edition. The ballot, including the correlating committee notes report, first draft correlating revisions report and final ballot, is posted under the “next edition” tab in the “first draft committee information” section.

NFPA 99, Health Care Facilities Code. The HEA-AAC correlating committee posted its first draft ballot regarding the code’s 2027 edition. The ballot is posted under the “next edition” tab in the “first draft committee information section.” Look for the heading “Health Care Facilities (HEA-AAC)” to view the ballot.

NFPA 750, Standard on Water Mist Fire Protection Systems. The committee posted its first draft ballot for the standard’s 2027 edition. The ballot, including the public input with responses report, committee input report, first revisions report and final ballot, is posted under the “next edition” tab in the “first draft committee information” section.

NFPA 780, Standard for the Installation of Lightning Protection Systems. The committee posted the final tentative interim amendment ballot for the standard’s 2026 edition. The ballot is posted under the “next edition” tab in the “other committee information” section.

Meeting minutes, notices and agendas

Six committees shared meeting minutes, notices and agendas.

NFPA 25, Standard for the Inspection, Testing, and Maintenance of Water-Based Fire Protection Systems. The committee posted second draft minutes from its Sept. 25-26, 2024, meetings. The minutes, which pertain to the standard’s 2026 edition, are posted under the “next edition” tab in the “second draft committee information” section.

NFPA 45, Standard on Fire Protection for Laboratories Using Chemicals. The committee posted a first draft meeting notice and agenda for upcoming meetings regarding the standard’s 2027 edition and taking place March 12-13 and March 17-18. The notice and agenda are posted under the “next edition” tab in the “first draft committee information” section.

NFPA 85, Boiler and Combustion Systems Hazards Code. Correlating committee BCS-FUN posted first draft meeting minutes from its Feb. 4-6 meetings regarding the code’s 2026 edition. The minutes are posted under the “next edition” tab in the “first draft committee information” section.

NFPA 99, Health Care Facilities Code. Second draft meeting notices for correlating committees HEA-ELS, HEA-FUN, HEA-HES, HEA-HYP, HEA-MEC, HEA-MED, HEA-PIP are posted under “next edition” tab in the “second draft committee information” section. The August meetings will discuss the code’s 2027 edition.

NFPA 170, Standard for Fire Safety and Emergency Symbols. The committee posted a first draft meeting notice for its April 21 meeting under the “next edition” tab in the “first draft committee information” section. The committee will discuss the standard’s 2027 edition.

NFPA 1660, Standard for Emergency, Continuity, and Crisis Management: Preparedness, Response, and Recovery. Correlating committees EMB-AAA, MEP-AAA, PIP-AAA posted pre-first draft agendas for meetings scheduled Feb. 26 regarding the standard’s 2028 edition. The agendas are posted under the “next edition” tab in the “first draft committee information” section. The committee also posted second draft meeting minutes from its Feb. 2-4, 2022, meetings regarding the standard’s 2024 edition. The minutes are posted under the “current & prior editions” tab in the “second draft committee information” section.

Cybersecurity chapter public input

The National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) is requesting feedback on a newly proposed chapter focused on cybersecurity for the 2027 edition of NFPA 99, Health Care Facilities Code.
