NFPA weekly update: Aug. 5-10, 2024

The National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) manages more than 300 codes and works with more than 250 technical committees in its standards development process.

Below is a list of NFPA codes and committee happenings for the week of August 5-10. 

Meeting minutes and agendas

NFPA 1®, Fire Code®.  The committee posted first draft meeting minutes from its June 24-25 meeting where it discussed public inputs for the 2027 edition and heard reports from various task groups. The minutes are posted under the “Next Edition” tab in the “First Draft Committee Information” section.

NFPA 3, Standard for Commissioning of Fire Protection and Life Safety Systems and NFPA 4, Standard for Integrated Fire Protection and Life Safety Systems. Minutes from the Aug. 5 meeting included review of public inputs for the 2027 edition and the creation of two new task groups. The minutes are posted under the “Next Edition” tab in the “First Draft Committee Information” section.

NFPA 25, Standard for the Inspection, Testing and Maintenance of Water-Based Fire Protection Systems. The committee posted a meeting notice and agenda for Sept. 25-26, when it plans to discuss public comments made to the second draft of the standard’s 2026 edition. The notice and agenda are posted under the “Next Edition” tab in the “Second Draft Committee Information” section.

NFPA 54, National Fuel Gas Code. The committee posted the agenda for its Sept. 17-19 meeting where it will review public inputs for the first draft of the 2027 edition. The agenda is posted under the “Next Edition” tab in the “First Draft Committee Information” section.

NFPA 855, Standard for the Installation of Stationary Energy Storage Systems. The committee posted the agenda for its Aug. 26-29 meeting where it will review public inputs for the second draft of the 2026 edition. The agenda is posted under the “Next Edition” tab in the “Second Draft Committee Information” section.

Ballots

NFPA 72®, National Fire Alarm and Signaling Code®. Voting results of an informational ballot regarding Chapter 26 of the code have been posted. The ballot results are posted under the “Next Edition” tab in the “Other Committee Information” section.

NFPA 1082, Standard for Facilities Fire and Life Safety Director Professional Qualifications. The committee reports that there were no correlating revisions made to the first draft of the 2026 edition. The first draft report will be posted on or by Oct. 25, with a public comment closing date of Jan. 3, 2025.
