The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) in May released the Guide to Infection Prevention in Outpatient Settings: Minimum Expectations for Safe Care. The summary guide is based primarily on elements of standard precautions and represents the minimum infection-prevention expectations for safe care in ambulatory care settings. They reflect existing evidence-based guidelines produced by the CDC and the Healthcare Infection Control Practices Advisory Committee. Topics addressed in the guide include hand hygiene, personal protective equipment, and cleaning of environmental surfaces and medical equipment.
