CMS grants deemed status to Joint Commission for CAHs

The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) in October again granted the Joint Commission deeming authority for the accreditation of critical access hospitals (CAHs). The designation means that CAHs accredited by the Joint Commission may choose to be deemed as meeting Medicare and Medicaid certification requirements. CMS found that the Joint Commission's standards meet or exceed those of Medicare and Medicaid.
