NFPA weekly update: Sept. 16-20, 2024

Committees make progress on 2027 code and standard editions while others post tentative interim amendments and standards council decisions.

The National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) manages more than 300 codes and works with more than 250 technical committees in its standards development process.

Below is a list of NFPA codes and committee happenings for the week of Sept. 16-20.

Tentative interim amendments

NFPA 13, Standard for the Installation of Sprinkler Systems. TIA 22-10 revises a footnote on sprinkler storage in the current edition. For the upcoming 2025 edition, TIA 25-2 revises Table 23.3.1 ESFR Sprinkler Ceiling-Only Options for Solid Pile; Palletized; and Single-, Double-, and Multiple-Row Rack Storage. Also for the upcoming edition, TIA 25-3 revises Annex E Development of the Design Approach to Conform with ASCE/SEI 7 and Suggested Conversion Factor Adjustments for Locations Outside the United States.

NFPA 20, Standard for the Installation of Stationary Fire Pumps for Fire Protection.Tentative interim amendment 22-3 (TIA 22-3) on the current edition of NFPA 20 and TIA 25-1 on the upcoming 2025 edition correct table references for reactor and auto-transformer requirements.

NFPA 30, Flammable and Combustible Liquids Code. TIA 24-1 adds a new item to requirements for explosion protection systems in the code’s current edition.

NFPA 58, Liquefied Petroleum Gas Code. TIA 24-2 revises two paragraphs regarding cylinder requirements on the code’s current edition.

NFPA 72®, National Fire Alarm and Signaling Code®. TIA 25-3 deletes the definition 3.3.305 Subsidiary Stations or Intermediary Service Provider on the code’s upcoming 2025 edition and TIA 25-4 revises paragraph 10.5.7.2.2, which details qualifications for personnel and providers trained and certified to service subsidiary stations.

NFPA 80, Standard for Fire Doors and Other Opening Protectives. Stakeholders can comment on TIA No. 1081 and TIA No. 1082 on the standard’s current edition until Oct. 25. Both TIAs affect rolling steel fire doors.

NFPA 3000, Standard for an Active Shooter/Hostile Event Response Program. TIA 24-1 adds a new annex, Annex E — ASHER Benchmarks for Victim Care and Survivability, to the current edition and changes the current Annex E to Annex F.

Standards council decisions and ballots

NFPA 59, Utility LP-Gas Plant Code. Final ballot results, a public input with responses report and a first revisions with statements report has been posted under the “Next Edition” tab in the “First Draft Committee Information” section.

NFPA 80, Standard for Fire Doors and Other Opening Protectives. The council voted on an appeal affecting inspection requirements for the code’s upcoming 2025 edition.

NFPA 105, Standard for Smoke Door Assemblies and Other Opening Protectives. The council voted on an appeal affecting inspection requirements for the code’s upcoming 2025 edition.
