NFPA weekly update: Aug. 26-30, 2024

The National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) manages more than 300 codes and works with more than 250 technical committees in its standards development process.

Below is a list of NFPA codes and committee happenings for the week of Aug. 26-30.

Meeting minutes, notices and agendas

NFPA 10, Standard for Portable Fire Extinguishers. The committee posted a notice for its next meeting scheduled Nov. 12-13 in Boston, where it will discuss the second draft of the standard’s 2026 edition. The notice is posted under the “Next Edition” tab in the “Second Draft Committee Information” section.

NFPA 12, Standard on Carbon Dioxide Extinguishing Systems and NFPA 12A, Standard on Halon 1301 Fire Extinguishing Systems.  Second draft meeting minutes from meetings held May 14-15 are posted under each standard’s “Next Edition” tab in the “Second Draft Committee Information” sections. The minutes include discussion of public inputs to the second drafts of the standards’ 2025 editions.

NFPA 30, Flammable and Combustible Liquids Code. First draft meeting minutes from a July 19 meeting are posted under the “Next Edition” tab in the “First Draft Committee Information” section. The committee for the 2027 edition reviewed public inputs and developed first draft revisions. Committee task groups reported on issues related to electrical requirements, miscible liquid and emergency responder involvement.

NFPA 96, Standard for Ventilation Control and Fire Protection of Commercial Cooking Operations. The committee posted the agenda for its upcoming Sept. 9-10 meeting taking place in Quincy, Mass. The agenda includes public inputs submitted to the first draft of the standard’s 2027 edition. The agenda is posted under the “Next Edition” tab in the “First Draft Committee Information” section.

NFPA 99, Health Care Facilities Code. The committee reviewing the code’s 2027 edition posted first draft meeting minutes from meetings held from July 30 to Aug. 2. The minutes are posted under the “Next Edition” tab in the “First Draft Committee Information” section and include discussion of first draft public inputs.

NFPA 99B, Standard for Hyperbaric Facilities. First draft meeting minutes from the committee’s July 30-31 meeting are posted under the “Next Edition” tab in the “First Draft Committee Information” section. The committee reviewed public inputs submitted to the 2027 edition and appointed a new task group to review matters related to low voltage/limited-energy system connections.

NFPA 101®, Life Safety Code®.  The committee reviewing the code’s 2027 edition posted first draft meeting minutes for meetings held from July 16-17. The minutes are posted under the “Next Edition” tab in the “First Draft Committee Information” section and include discussion of first draft public inputs.

NFPA 5000®, Building Construction and Safety Code®.  The committee reviewing the code’s 2027 edition posted first draft meeting minutes from meetings held July 16-17. The minutes are posted under the “Next Edition” tab in the “First Draft Committee Information” section and include discussion of first draft public inputs.

Ballot results

NFPA 55, Compressed Gases and Cryogenic Fluids Code. The committee reviewing the code’s 2026 edition posted final ballot results, as well as a public input with responses report, committee input report and first revisions report. The first draft ballot is posted under the “Next Edition” tab in the “First Draft Committee Information” section.
