Gratitude for a banner year

Outgoing ASHE President ASHE Skanda Skandaverl reflects on great strides made by the organization and its members in 2024

As I prepare to transition from my role as president of the American Society for Health Care Engineering (ASHE), I am filled with gratitude and inspiration by the vibrant energy of the health care engineering community. The unwavering commitment to innovation and optimization in our field continues to impress me. However, I must take a moment to reflect on ASHE’s remarkable achievements in 2024 and recognize the many individuals who have contributed to our success.

This past year, ASHE celebrated several pivotal advocacy victories, and the forthcoming strategic plan — soon to be unveiled — will steer the organization’s priorities through 2027. This comprehensive plan addresses both the immediate challenges and long-term issues our field faces today. Aligned with our strategic priorities, ASHE introduced new educational resources and publications in 2024. Notably, the Core Competency Framework, which includes the Health Care Facilities Management Handbook Series and associated educational courses, will help us cultivate a robust body of knowledge for our members that will stand the test of time.

One of my personal objectives this year has been to attend as many chapter board meetings as possible. As I write this, I have traveled to all 10 regions and participated in more than 30 meetings this year. However, these numbers hardly capture the rich discussions I experienced with chapter leaders or the meaningful relationships we forged during these interactions. Speaking of connections, our community truly shone at the inaugural Health Care Facilities Innovation Conference™ in Anaheim, Calif., in July. This landmark event gathered a diverse group of passionate, talented and inspired professionals under ASHE’s broad banner.

It has been my honor to join with ASHE in realizing a vision for the future — one in which health care facilities enhance every aspect of healing and caregiving. I extend my heartfelt gratitude to the 2024 ASHE Advisory Board, whose dedication and insight have been invaluable as we pursue this vision. Lastly, my deepest appreciation goes to our members. Your steadfast commitment to our profession is the very foundation of ASHE. It has been a true privilege to serve you!
