TEXAS

The University of Texas System Board of Regents approved construction of a 12-story, 424-bed University Hospital at UT Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas. If approved by the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board, work on the $800 million, 1.3 million-square-foot project will begin in March 2011.

KENTUCKY

Construction began on the Owensboro Medical Health Center, a 780,000-square-foot replacement hospital on a 134-acre campus. The hospital will include a 447-bed, nine-story inpatient tower, three-story diagnostic and treatment building, 30-bed transitional care unit and more. The hospital was designed by HGA Architects and Engineers. Completion is scheduled for 2013.

ARIZONA

Banner Good Samaritan Medical Center, Phoenix, will build a $71 million multi-phase, 136,000-square-foot addition to its surgical services department. The addition will accommodate 20 operating rooms, 76 pre-operative and postoperative bays, and a waiting room with technology to keep visitors connected with families and friends during surgery. HKS Inc., Phoenix, will design the addition.

NEW YORK

Plans are under way for the modernization of St. Mary's Hospital for Children in New York. The project includes renovation of the building and construction of a patient pavilion. The project will provide additional space for rehabilitation, patient care, education and family visitation. Turner Construction Co. was awarded a $72 million contract to provide preconstruction and construction management.
