Joint Commission announces revised fire system requirements

The Joint Commission announced in its January 12 Joint Commission Online newsletter that its Board of Commissioners has accepted a revision to existing EP 2 and a new EP 25 under Environment of Care standard EC.02.03.05, which will be effective July 1. The changes concern maintenance, testing and inspection of fire alarm and water-based fire protection systems. To maintain Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) deeming authority, The Joint Commission must ensure that its standards and elements of performance are equivalent to the CMS Conditions of Participation.
