Developing the AHE’s staffing book
The Association for the Health Care Environment (AHE) staffing task force was established in early 2015 and charged by the AHE board to develop a publication that would provide productivity standards, guidance and recommendations, backed by data, to assist environmental services (ES) professionals in determining optimal staffing levels for their departments.
The result is the Staffing Methodologies and Standards for Healthcare Environmental Services Departments book, which was developed from a series of surveys, reports and data collected over the years. This reference is also the result of the meticulous and at times painstaking work of the AHE staffing task force.
After more than two years and hundreds of hours of consultations and collaborative discussion, the book was completed.
Participants included author and task force member Rock Jensen and consultant Tom Peck. Also involved in the project were task force members Michael Bailey, CHESP; Bob Hodnik; Ralph Lopez, CHESP; Nazar Masry, CHESP; and Dermot Pelletier.
AHE also thanks the ES managers, directors and others who completed the time studies and surveys that made the publication possible.
